Failing to break Bray's will, the Guardian grants Trudy's request to try — she knows his weaknesses better than anyone. Trudy tells Bray he has to go along with the Guardian or he'll be killed. She also confesses her love for him before explaining that if he embraces the Chosen, he will free his friends and save their lives. Bray offers to talk to the Mall Rats on one condition — that Trudy never mention the word love to him again. Ellie blames herself for Jack's capture and tells Alice she can still do something for Jack — get revenge. KC turns Cloe into Oliver but his joke ends with them being put to work scrubbing floors. Salene and May agree to participate in the Guardian's service of worship, tacitly joining the Chosen, but Salene reassures Ryan that they're just pretending. Tai-San advises the others on how to properly fight back — by controlling their anger which the Guardian feeds on. Luke brings Brady to Trudy for a brief visit but asks her to keep the visit a secret. Trudy denies his claim that she helped Bray escape but does admit her hesitation was to blame. Before leaving, Luke offers her food but Trudy won't accept it, refusing to break the fast the Guardian has imposed. KC causes a commotion by allowing Cloe to steal some food to share with the others but when the Guardian discovers the food missing he accuses Trudy of taking it. Upon seeing her friends, Eagle demands the Mall Rats be removed from camp orders the camp be relocated. Bray and the others are confused by her behaviour but Eagle is definitely Amber. In private with Pride, Eagle admits to keeping her past a secret because she was "reborn" on Eagle Mountain and is only interested in the future. Eagle shows little concern for the city dwellers knowing their old foe Zoot is dead but Pride informs her that Zoot lives on through the Chosen who now rule the city and nearly executed Bray. Bray is still in shock at finding Amber alive but his demand to speak with her himself are denied and he is later haunted by dreams of Amber that night. Back at the mall, Alice cautions Ellie about the symbolism involved in accepting an apple from the Chosen. Lex learns Eagle's tribe is called The Gaians but Ebony is unimpressed, believing they'd be useless in a fight. Eagle asks to see Dal and recounts what little she remembers of events at the observatory while Dal tells her everything they've accomplished in the city. Amber explains how Pride found her semi-conscious halfway down the mountain and brought her back to camp where she was adopted by the Gaians and learned their ways, ultimately being made tribe leader. Although she never forgot the Mall Rats, she decided to start her life again. Amber invites Dal to stay with the Gaians but he won't leave his friends and is committed to stopping the Chosen. Dal dismisses Amber's strongly-held belief that Bray and Ebony are a couple. Suspiciously unsurprised at finding Amber alive, Ebony tries to convince Bray they should leave the camp immediately but Bray is determined to know the truth and forces his way in to see Amber. Amber agrees to talk and describes the experience of finding her own grave and of being found by Pride. She insists she is now Eagle — the Amber he once knew is dead.©tzuk

Eagle informs Bray and the others that they will have a chance to state their case before a meeting of the tribe council. Amber further recounts events after the explosion at Eagle Mountain, finally revealing the full story to Bray… After the explosion at the observatory, Ebony found her injured and brought her outside. Ebony told Amber she and Bray had a baby together — and showed her a photo to prove it — and offered Amber the opportunity to start a new life for herself with the promise she would take care of everything and the others would believe she died. Bray denies he and Ebony ever had a baby together but Amber is not interested in listening leaving Bray vowing to prove to her the truth. Bray confronts Ebony about her phoney baby story and the fake grave but she denies it all and stresses the importance of their initial reason for coming — to get help for their friends. Back at the mall, Alice dumps her gruel on Luke resulting in the Guardian taking away everyone's food. Ellie questions if Alice is pushing things too far but Alice responds that someone has to take a stand. The Guardian agrees to release Trudy from confinement believing she can help break the Mall Rats. Lex is ready to go it alone without help from the Gaians, whom he thinks incapable of fighting, but Pride steps forward to prove him wrong. The Guardian make Tai-San an offer — he'll release her with a message to take to her friends asking them to give themselves up but Tai-San sees through his ploy. At the tribal meeting there is fierce opposition among the Gaians to helping fight the Chosen but Bray warns them of the inevitable threat they will face from the Chosen and asked for their help to assemble a resistance from the remaining free tribes. Amber and Bray move the Resistance into a new headquarters and draft a plan of attack unaware that Ebony and Lex are working on a risky plan of their own. Alice's concern grows when Salene refuses to reveal what they're being taught by the Chosen and furthermore by her admission that some of what the Chosen are teaching them makes sense. Ellie suggests to her sister they need an informer they know they can trust and Cloe quickly volunteers. After convincing Amber that she is too valuable to risk going on the mission, Bray and Pride lead the Resistance into the sewers. Bray stops to ask Pride about his relationship with and Amber and Pride tells him they've pledged themselves to one another. In the mall, the Guardian dismisses his guards to be alone. Patsy tells Alice and Ellie about Trudy "spinning out" after finding out the Guardian is seeing Tai-San and they wonder if Tai-San has betrayed them and Lex. Alice and Ellie want answers from Tai-San who explains she is working for the Resistance "in her own way" and is a loyal Mall Rat. Salene surprises Ryan with a tray of fresh fruit. Ryan doesn't like learning she has talked to the Guardian about them and that he has both approved of their relationship and orchestrated their night together. KC finds the computer and fliers. Ryan catches KC and tells him to stop snooping prompting KC to express his frustration at not being told anything that's going on. He shows Ryan his skeleton key and reveals his plan to escape to look for Lex and Bray. He asks Ryan to join him but Ryan won't leave Salene. A recharged Trudy bursts in on the Guardian and the pair square off over who is the more impure — her for her attempted seduction or him for his thoughts about Tai-San. When Trudy calls him a hypocrite and unworthy of being Zoot's guardian on earth, vowing to expose him to her followers, the Guardian has her confined to her room. To keep Trudy safe, Bray asks Pride to take her to Amber. With Trudy gone, the Guardian allows May to look after Brady. Salene questions Luke about the future of the Chosen without Trudy and he assures her they're as strong as ever. Salene admits she's worried about losing Ryan but Luke tells her he'll always be there for her. The Guardian regrets trying to reunite Zoot and Trudy, now realising her reprieve is Zoot's way of telling him she was unworthy to die — just as she is unworthy to be Supreme Mother. Pending further enlightenment, he orders Luke to have Trudy's name be blackened. Alice, Ellie and Tai-San are pondering KC's fate when they see him prance by. Alice stops him but he won't reveal his new status, just that he's kept them in the clear. Brady crawls away while May is sleeping but her frantic search for the child is interrupted by a guard telling her to take Brady to the Guardian. May asks Patsy for help to search but the poor girl mysteriously vanishes and is never seen again. Alice is upset Ellie has not been making an effort to get to know Luke when she knows he sympathises with them and believes he could be won over. Ellie agrees to try but her efforts are awkward. Enjoying his new role as Oracle, KC tells the Guardian he's had a second encounter. The Guardian is rapt to hear of the encounter but Luke is unimpressed as KC tells of a revelation calling for a celebration to mark Brady's saving — with treats for the kids. May finds Brady in an off-limit planning room where she takes the opportunity to steal a map. After a flash of insight, the Guardian makes an announcement — Zoot has revealed that the Supreme Mother shall now be known by her true title — Impostor — and all babies shall live under the Guardianship of the Chosen. Ryan is not pleased when Salene identifies herself as one of the expectant mothers but she insists its for the best. While returning from delivering Trudy to Amber, Pride stops to help two lost children only to be ambushed by their older brother.©tzuk

The Guardian is angered by rumours in the city that he is losing control following Trudy's escape and orders new slaves be gathered and an example made of anyone who steps out of line. KC tells Luke a new vision has revealed he's to go through the city making sure Zoot's work is being done the right way. Luke sees through KC's feeble attempt to get a free pass to the city but KC gets what he wants by threatening to tell the Guardian that Luke helped Trudy escape. Ebony tells Bray and Lex they need vehicles to even the playing field with the Chosen and takes Lex to scout the Locos' old fuel dump by the docks. KC flaunts new status to Chosen guards patrolling the streets and settles back it to his old ways, taking bribes for good reports. Tied up, Pride watches as the two kids snare two other victims from whom they steal food. When their brother, Andy, returns, he informs Pride he is to be sold to the Chosen. KC hides in a car when he sees Lex and Ebony approaching. Unable to start the car, Lex tells Ebony he wants to cash in his rain check. Lex climbs into the back seat of the car only to have Ebony slam the door on him. Ryan starts a fight with a guard but Luke intervenes to save Ryan's life — something he wasn't able to do for Patsy when she was caught spying. Ellie asks Luke if he is a true believer, hoping he is just pretending, but Luke says he only saved the Supreme Mother because of a misunderstanding. Disappointed, Ellie tells Luke the Guardian is a lunatic and if Luke had any guts he'd get rid of him and take over. Alice is upset at Ellie for picking a fight rather than sweet-talking Luke as they planned. Ebony and Lex reach the fuel depot but find it empty while KC seeks out an old contact, Fisheye. Luke tells the Guardian there is concern among "some people" that he is spending time with Tai-San, a non-believer, but the Guardian believes Tai-San holds the key to the Mall Rats' defeat. During another of their talks, the Guardian is nearly talked into succumbing to temptation by Tai-San but he resists her. Salene participates in a Zoot-themed ante-natal class but is put off by the commandment that Zoot be the "new and only father" to her baby. Seeking clarification, she is told her baby has no need of Ryan — he will never even see the baby.©tzuk

Luke summons Tai-San to see the Guardian who apologises for having frightened her while she continues her subtle efforts to entice him. KC tells Fisheye about being the Guardian's new oracle but admits it's not entirely a scam — sometimes he can hear Zoot. Ellie apologises to Luke who explains he feels misunderstood and wonders if she can look beyond his cloak to the person inside, and offers to send a message to Jack for her. When May tells Alice she wants to leave the Chosen and rejoin the Mall Rats, Alice asks her to be their spy. May meets with Lex and tells him the Chosen guards got Patsy — she's not coming back. Salene tells Ryan about the maternity meeting but leaves out the most important part. May returns to the mall thinking Ryan knows everything and while she doesn't reveal the truth, she does make him curious enough to confront Salene who is finally forced to tell him he's not going to see his child — ever. Salene tries to explain that she had no choice but to agree to those terms but Ryan accuses her of being one of "them" and leaves the room enraged. Ellie tells Alice that Luke is not like the others but Alice doesn't buy it and is concerned her sister is falling for the enemy. Tai-San tells Alice her approach with the Guardian is working, explaining he's a deeply confused human being, a lost soul in emotional pain acting out of fear and desperation. She's convinced she can reach him but Alice is concerned for her safety. May sneaks back into the planning room and copies a map and is nearly caught. Ryan gets KC to use his skeleton key to unlock his chains and goes on a rampage, beating up several guards before reaching the Guardian. Ryan has the upper hand in the one-on-one fight but is ultimately overpowered by numbers.©tzuk

Luke apologises to the Guardian for the lapse in security that allowed Ryan to get to him but the Guardian is buoyed by having been "snatched from the jaws of a martyr's death", seeing the attack as confirmation of Zoot's message that the children have no other father but Him. Luke tells Salene that despite the Guardian's orders that Ryan be executed, he has smuggled him off to one of their mining colonies. Luke asks her not to tell anyone the truth and to go on as expected, explaining he is helping because he believes Zoot is merciful, not vengeful. Salene embraces Luke as Ellie walks in. KC sets up a trading post and holds one item above all others — Zoot's goggles. Despite his initial reluctance to sell them, KC strikes a deal — and does so over and over again. Ned tries to sell Pride to the Chosen but his outrageous asking price is rejected and he's made a counteroffer he can't refuse — all of them in exchange for their lives. Luke tries to smooth things over with Ellie who accuses him of getting Ryan out of the way so he could move in on Salene. Their conversation is interrupted by Tai-San who gives him an urgent message for the Guardian asking to see him. May meets with Lex, Ebony and Bray and tells them Ryan has been taken away while they tell her of Dal's death. May gives them the map she copied which shows the location of a fuel depot. Pride, Ned, and his twin siblings, Tally and Andy, are brought to the mall. Recognising Pride, May tells him she's a spy and both promise to keep one other's secrets. As the Rebel leaders toast their victory, Luke laments the loss of the depot while the Guardian ponders the incident's greater meaning. The Guardian asks his oracle for the meaning behind the explosion but KC struggles to come up with an answer and settles for Option A — a portent of a celebration to urge the Guardian on to greater things. Luke brings Ellie word from Jack who is busy doing "important work". She sends back her message of love through Luke who expresses his own feelings for her in his suggested reply message. Salene overhears their conversation and tells Ellie how lucky they are to have Luke doing things for them causing Ellie to sharply remind her that Luke and the Guardian are the ones responsible for the mess they now find themselves in. May meets with Ebony, Lex and Bray and tells them about the new arrivals while Ned challenges the Mall Rats on their ineffective resistance efforts. Out in the city, KC regales a crowded bar with his oracle stories but his goggle-wearing audience has another subject they want to discuss. The Mall Rats find Ned and his siblings spray painting the mall. Alice goes off on him for trashing their home but Ned pushes Alice too far and gets punched out. Tai-San offers the Guardian her help in addressing his feelings, explaining that only by owning up to his fears will he find peace. Alone, Salene prays to Zoot to bring Ryan back to her and make everything as it was. The Guardian has a revelation — Zoot wants Tai-San to reign over the Chosen by his side for all eternity.©tzuk

Lex is intrigued by the description of the show and wants to check it out. The Guardian tells Luke about his revelation that Tai-San is to be the new Supreme Mother. Luke tries to get him to reconsider but there's no arguing with the Will of Zoot. The rebels watch the entertainers' puppet show which reinterprets recent events but casts them in the role of the villains. The rebels confront the puppeteers on the road and take their places for the next show to tell the real truth about the Guardian and the threat posed by the Chosen. Alice sees Tai-San's elevation to Supreme Mother as a great opportunity for them to manipulate the Guardian but Ellie is concerned it's too dangerous and Tai-San might be taken over. Lex is basking in the afterglow of his performance when Bray arrives with news that the Chosen are going to hold a coronation for the true Supreme Mother. The Guardian talks with Luke about the prophetic power of dreams and tells him about his own dream which foretells a great test that is to come before he and Tai-San can be raised to the divine together. Lex is convinced the new Supreme Mother must be May or Salene, exclaiming how the traitor will get what she deserves when the war's over. Ebony wants to ambush the coronation to take out the Guardian. Bray doesn't want to resort to violence but Lex backs Ebony and Bray steps forward as the only one capable of using the crossbow. Despite both being unhappy about Tai-San's new position, Luke accuses Ellie of getting rid of Trudy so she could put Tai-San in her place, further suggesting she has only been nice to him in an effort to manipulate him. Later, Ellie tells Luke that while she did try to use him, she didn't in regard to Tai-San and admits to caring for him. Salene wants answers from Alice about Tai-San but Alice says she's not trustworthy enough to know the bigger picture. May asks Luke to make her Tai-San's handmaiden and offers to spy on her for him. The Guardian informs Tai-San she needs to go through a public purification ritual. Tai-San wakes from a dream of Lex killing the Guardian at her coronation. Bray argues with Ebony, worried that if they killed the Guardian, the Chosen would take it out on the Mall Rats. To celebrate the coronation of the Supreme Mother, Luke announces an amnesty — one of the Mall Rats can go free. Alice asks Luke about Salene and realises from his reaction that she lost the baby. Ned sticks his nose into the conversation and makes insinuations about Luke and Ellie. Alice recognises the amnesty as a plot to start the Mall Rats fighting amongst themselves but concedes that it is too good an opportunity to pass up. Unable to choose who will go free, KC comes with a plan to get rid of the obnoxious Ned. Tai-San tells the Guardian about her dream but he is unconvinced of the danger, happy to leave his safety in the hands of Zoot. Alice offers a tearful apology to Salene who explains how losing her baby was all part of Zoot's great plan and that Alice was just his tool. Alice later tells Ellie she believes Salene is now one of the Chosen, having swapped her obsession with Bray for that of Zoot. Ned's freedom is short-lived as he is hauled back into the mall after being arrested for getting into a drunken fight with the guards. Outside the mall, Lex gets into position as the coronation begins. Bray must force his way past Ebony to stop him and manages to knock the crossbow just as Lex shoots. Luke reminds the Guardian of the warnings both he and Tai-San gave him but the Guardian still holds Luke responsible for the attack despite the reminder that he and Tai-San are alive and the Divine Child safe. Luke suggests the shooting was a result of Zoot's disapproval of what the Guardian is doing and calls out the Guardian on his inability to communicate with Zoot. Angered, the Guardian labels Luke a traitor and dismisses him as his Lieutenant. Tally and Andy put KC's loaded dice to good work scamming kids but it is KC who nearly gets arrested by the guards. The Guardian thanks Tai-San for saving his life and asks for her forgiveness for not heeding Zoot's warning. Bray stops Lex from going to the mall to check on Tai-San and volunteers to go in his place. When he returns with a rumour of Tai-San being carried back to the mall, Lex assumes she is dead. With the Divine Child in the hands of the rebels and their numbers strengthened by Amber's new recruits, Bray addresses the group to announce a meeting with tribe leaders which will hopefully lead to end to the Chosen's reign of terror. The Guardian orders Luke be put on trial for helping the rebels abduct Brady. Salene insists that it was Pride and Tai-San who were responsible but the Guardian doesn't believe her and orders she and Tally, who was only helping search for Brady, go on trial as well — and their punishment will be death. Amber tells Bray she doesn't look forward to the world after the Chosen are gone, believing there will be a return of the chaos and fighting that there was after the virus. The Guardian blames KC for not foreseeing the abduction and KC is forced to admit to having no further visions. Unfazed, the Guardian says he believes Zoot is preparing to finally show himself to him. The remaining Mall Rats search for a way out of the mall and are encouraged by rumours of guard desertions and looting but less so by word the prisoners are to be gotten ride of. Lex doesn't believe Trudy, who returned with Amber, is reformed and wants to lock her up but Bray believes Amber's claim that she has changed. The first of the tribal leaders arrives but he refuses to help the rebels and doesn't expect the other leaders will either. At his trial, Luke takes sole responsibility and encourages the other members of the Chosen to rise against the Guardian. Receiving no support, he is locked up. The Guardian addresses the Mall Rats and tells them Zoot wanted Brady to be taken — the child isn't needed to fulfil their destiny. Back at the rebels' HQ, Trudy steps forward to speak to the assembled leaders and successfully implores them to seize the opportunity to make a new future. Salene sneaks down to the cage hoping to rescue Luke. When guards come, he manges to convince them to desert and set him free. With mall security now in the hands of the Chosen's elite Praetorian guard, the Guardian's demands the rebels turn over Luke who they are hiding. Meanwhile, Luke tells Ellie he loves her and asks her to come away with him. Amber tells Bray about her idea to capture groups of the Chosen and use Trudy to deprogram them. When she reveals she won't be leading the snatch squads because she's pregnant, Bray asks her if the father is him or Pride causing Amber to storm out of the room.©tzuk

She says she has Zoot to guide her. Luke rejects Salene's advances explaining he is in love with Ellie and only helped her because he felt sorry for her. The Guardian gathers the Mall Rats and orders the mall be sealed off, while in the basement, Alice and Ned finally breach the wall and find daylight. The Guardian reveals his plan to the Mall Rats as his guards roll in a massive bomb. Proclaiming they can't deny their destiny and Zoot is calling to them, the timer on the bomb is started. Ned gets stuck in the hole and Alice goes back to get the others. She runs into the guards but Ned appears and explains their activities by saying they sleep in the basement so as to not disturb the others. Bray and the rebels are gathered outside the mall when they hear a message from the Guardian inviting the masses to join them in the "cleansing fire". Inside the mall, Alice and Ned fight off the guards hoping Ellie, KC, Tally and Andy can escape but they are overpowered and only KC makes it out. KC tells the rebels about the bomb and the rebels enter the mall through the hole only to be stopped by the mall's security gate. Luke congratulates Bray on his victory and offers his advice on leading the city — he can't show any compassion and if he's serious about building a new world, he (Luke) needs to be found guilty and executed if justice is to be seen to be done. Mildly amused by the incident, Amber demands to know who took revenge on May and Lex reveals himself as the guilty party. Bray asks Amber to act as an impartial magistrate to preside over Luke's trial. Tai-San is upset with Lex for what he did to May and Ellie is upset at Luke for willingly sacrificing himself. The angry mob returns demanding justice and this time is not willing to be dismissed. Ebony comes out to announce that Luke, as the Guardian's second in command, will be the one to stand trial — and she will be the one to prosecute him. Under pressure from Ebony, Luke admits some of the tribe leaders were killed and admits his guilt and asks to be sentenced. Ellie steps forward to offer a defence but Luke is resigned to his fate. Amber announces a guilty verdict and, accepting Luke's remorse, sentences him to go free to live with the knowledge of what he has done. Brady is walking. While talking with Salene and Alice, Ned says everything will be back to normal after they hand over the Guardian but Alice is not so sure given the lack of details in the ramsom note. Jack apologises to Ellie for coming on strong after his return buy she remains distant. Alice tells Tai-San she doesn't understand what she's doing with the Guardian but Tai-Sai councels her to look for the good in people — advice applicable to her and Ned as well. Lex enjoys finding Tai-San cooking but gets upset when she says the food is for the Guardian and he gives her an ultimatum — him or me. May asks Pride if he'll take her along when he goes back to his tribe. He won't and says he likes her but that's as far as it goes. Ellie talks to Luke about her guilty feelings for the way she's treating Jack and admits she knows she has to go back to him. Prompted by an accusation from May, Tai-San asks Lex if he was involved in the kidnapping. He denies it and accuses her of not trusting him. Their argument escalates until Tai-San suggests they should end their marriage if they won't believe in each other. Bray tells Pride he can't give in to the kidnappers' demands, holding himself to the standard set by Amber who would never agree to turning over the Guardian to a certain death sentence. Jack approaches Salene wanting to know if there was anything going on between Ellie and Luke while he was away. She reluctantly says she thought Luke had feelings for Ellie but doesn't know if she felt the same way. Alice finds a second note from the kidnappers, this time containing Amber's necklace and poorly-written instructions on where the transfer will take place. Luke tells Jack he should be grateful to him for saving his life but admits that while he would like there to be something between him and Ellie, there isn't because she doesn't love him. Sitting with the Guardian, Bray reflects on Amber's comments to the mob about fair treatment and justice for all being cornerstones of their new society and debates with Pride if they can turn the Guardian over to be killed. As they leave, the Guardian glances up with a smile on his face. Ellie apologises to Jack for being distant since his return and half-heartedly accepts his invitation to dinner. Lex gets upset when he finds Tai-San collecting fresh food for the Guardian. She asks Lex to come see the Guardian with her. KC makes a bet with Ned over whether Bray will hand over the Guardian but Ebony bursts Ned's bubble when she reminds him of Bray's Boy Scout principles before asking for the odds. Bray announces to the Mall Rats that he plans to turn over the Guardian. Ebony tries to make the point that it wouldn't be what Amber would want but Bray is not swayed. May bumps into KC taking Jack supplies for his dinner with Ellie and laments that she has no one to give her a candlelit dinner or flowers. Later with Salene, May wonders if it is time she moved on. Recalling Amber's refusal to turn over the Guardian to the mob, Bray has second thoughts about what to do. Jack's elaborate table setting is marred by a missing flower that KC has stolen to give to May. Ellie ends her night with Jack early and when she runs into Luke on the way back to her room, tells him he is the one she loves and wants to be with. KC takes stock of his inventory with Tally and Andy. Underwhelmed by the quality of their merchandise, KC wants to get their hands on a high-profile item — the Guardian's ring. Ned voices to Alice his displeasure with Bray's plan, never anticipating Bray not turning over the Guardian. Ellie isn't surprised to learn of Alice and Ned's relationship but Alice is not pleased about Ellie and Luke, fearing Ellie is placing herself at risk given the danger Luke lives with. Winning her bet, Alice demands KC to do her laundry for two weeks while Andy losses a die roll and must get the Guardian's ring. KC is a miffed to see May give her flower to Pride but quickly refocusses his attention to getting the ring. Several of the Mozzies are captured at the rendezvous site but are released when it is realised they not involved in the kidnapping. With the mission failed, the Mall Rats return home. The Guardian grabs Andy as he tries to steal the ring from his finger, demanding Andy get the key to the cage. Ebony returns and chastises Andy for being there but dismisses his report of the Guardian's actions. With no reason to stay after losing Ellie to Luke, Jack packs his things and leaves the mall, visiting Dal's grave to seek guidance on what to do next. Pony Joe's nomadic tribe find Bray lying unconscious at the side of the road and stop to take him with them. When they stop to make camp, Bray is cared for by Moon. KC surprises May with another gift — Apollo (the transport of the future!), but Pride is quick to inform KC the horse was mistreated and no one will be able to ride him. In Bray's absence, May nominates Pride as the Mall Rat's temporary leader but Salene is vocal about not accepting another leader, believing that without Bray there is no tribe. Lex and Pride question the casino staff and are told the Mozzies went after Bray when he was thrown out. Alice and Ned find the farm trashed but he encourages her that they can rebuild it and have the most successful business around. Ebony goes to talk to Moz about the growing state of lawlessness in the city but sees an opportunity for someone with ambition. Ebony appoints Lex as the city's new sheriff and gives him his first job — to persuade the city he's the right man for the job. Ned approaches Ebony wanting her to get him something special for Alice. Lex is enjoying his new role as sheriff — and his new uniform. Ellie asks Ebony to give Luke something to do. Says she'll think about it but in the meantime suggests Ellie restart The Amulet. Pony Joe recognises Bray as the leader of the Mall Rats and tells him of meeting another of the Mall Rats — Ryan. Ebony suggests Luke be the tribe's new treasurer believing he's the perfect candidate given that he can't leave the mall to spend the new money. Andy refuses to feed the Guardian anymore and not even Lex's attempt to convince him it is a rite of passage into manhood will sway him. Ned returns to the mall after taking food to the captive girls and tells Ebony he can't keep getting away from Alice — he needs more goods to throw her off the scent. Lex begs off his Guardian feeding duty citing his increased workload as sheriff so Tai-San takes on the job. KC and May share their problems but he misinterprets her hypothetical and thinks she's talking about him. May apologises to Pride for her overreaction to finding Ellie interviewing him for her paper and tells him she cares about him. She is awkward but endearing. Andy warns Tai-San the Guardian is only pretending to be insane and cautions her not to turn her back on him. Moz has concerns about the new currency system and holds up Ellie's latest edition of The Amulet which warns of a new underclass as her evidence. Ebony pays the Guardian another visit — just long enough to leave him a crowbar — and then wakes Ned to tell him he needs to deliver the Guardian to Moz. May has no news from her contacts about Amber and Trudy but Pride doubts an outsider could have even done it. Ned excitedly tells Alice his plans for them are falling into place but keeps the details a mystery. Ebony gets the Mall Rats to hand out election leaflets allowing Ned to take the Guardian out of the mall through the sewers. Ned hides him in a coffin to continue the journey. KC tries to return the necklace to the trader but he can't get a cash refund. KC's offer of some of his old, broken watches only gets him in more trouble. Alice shares her joy with May who is supportive, but sceptical, about Ned's promises, and in turn tells Alice about her and Pride. When Ned stops to rest, the Guardian emerges from the coffin and hits him over the head with the crowbar. May pulls Lex aside during Bray's campaign speech to tell him the Guardian has escaped. Lex goes on stage to tell Bray who becomes tongue-tied. As the Mall Rats search for the Guardian, Pride wants to know where Ned is and Andy tells them the Guardian has fooled them all since day one. With Bray no longer a viable candidate, Luke suggests Ebony as a replacement and Bray begs her to do it. Lex also wants the position but Bray tells him his unpopularity as sheriff makes him unsuitable. Lex accuses Ebony of plotting everything in a bid to seize power causing Ebony to reject the job and storm off to her room. With a smile on her face, Ebony waits for Bray to come and plead for her to reconsider. Ebony agrees to run in the election and even gets an apology from Lex. Amber is beginning to lose hope but Trudy encourages her to think of her baby and stay strong. The Guardian demands to know where Ned has hidden the Supreme Mother.©tzuk

KC tries to sell the necklace May rejected to Alice but she won't take it either and suggests he gives it to May. The Mozzies find Ned's body and bring him back to the mall prompting Lex to launch a murder inquiry. Alice is distraught over Ned's death but when KC breaks the news to Tally and Andy, they are only upset at Ned for getting himself killed. The Guardian travels to the abandoned factory when Ned has been hiding Trudy and Amber intent on destroying the false Supreme Mother. Trudy tries to fight him off but he overpowers her and turns to face Amber when Ebony bursts in. The Guardian rushes her and escapes. Ebony brings Amber and Trudy back to the mall and they reveal Ned was the kidnapper, another blow to Alice. Bray tells Amber about recent events including Ebony standing for election — news which doesn't please Amber. Luke tries to talk Ellie into using The Amulet to attack Moz and play down Ned being the kidnapper while focusing on the Guardian's role. KC tries to sell the necklace to Bray, and then Luke, but when Pride asks to buy it for May, KC refuses to sell it to him. Alice buries Ned at the farm. Luke oversees the voting and despite an early lead for Moz, Ebony (possibly aided by Lex taking advantage of the illiterate voters) is elected as the new leader of the city. While Bray is encouraged by the chance at a new beginning, Amber fears it is the beginning of the end.©tzuk

Jack is fishing when he is distracted by a series of screams. Investigating, he comes across a young girl under attack by two older boys. After scaring them off, Jack turns around to discover the girl is Cloe. Bray wakes Amber from a nightmare about the Guardian. He tells her he blames himself for not turning over the Guardian to the people but she tells him he did the right thing. Ebony has moved back to the familiar confines of the hotel. Tai-San doesn't like the feel of things but Lex assures her he can keep Ebony under control. Cloe tells Jack how she was made to work in the mines until one day the guards were gone and she started making her way back to the city. Ellie goes to the farm to see Alice who is still keeping vigil at Ned's graveside. Lex's search for the Guardian takes him and Pride to the factory where they find KC giving tours. Lex collects fines from the kids but Pride has a go at KC for trying to profit off the girls' kidnapping. Ebony asks Luke for a few bags of coins for herself — for emergencies she assures him. Tai-San's comment that Trudy and Amber were fortunate Ebony showed up when she did is heard by Amber who's not sure it was. Bray visits Ebony to talk about organising the city. He thinks she should hold off on Lex being sheriff because he is scaring too many people but Ebony tells Bray she's already reappointed him to the job. She placates Bray by telling him she wants him to be Chief Justice and sends him back to the mall to look after Amber. When he's gone, Ebony and Moz resume their secret talks. Amber remains suspicious of Ebony and how events have resulted in her running the city. Bray tries to tell her Ebony has changed but makes the mistake of telling Amber she is being paranoid as a result of her pregnancy hormones. Amber tells him Ebony has taken him for a sucker and storms out. Jack directs Cloe back to the mall but it takes some convincing for him to go with her. Lex and KC split their takings from the factory tour scam and Lex promises not to have Pride with him next time. The Guardian observes the comings and goings from the mall. When he finally sees Tai-San leave, he follows and approaches her while she's collecting herbs.©tzuk

The Guardian wants Tai-San to help him rekindle the faith but she gets away by convincing him they can't do it without the Divine Child. At the farm, Alice is still mourning at Ned's grave and vows to find who killed him. KC is the first to spot Jack and Cloe when they return to the mall and all but ignores Jack when he sees Cloe. Not wanting to see Ellie, Jack won't go inside until Amber tells him Ellie and Luke are both away. Bray is speaking to the others on the need to create a new set of laws when Tai-San arrives and tells them of her encounter with the Guardian and her promise to meet him the next morning with Brady. Tally and Andy try to sell KC's necklace to a trader but Lex confiscates it and sends them on their way. Lex gives the necklace to Pride to return to KC before shaking down the trader for a gift for Tai-San. At the hotel, Ebony has a job for Moz — she wants her to waste the Guardian and will pay double if she does it quietly. Cloe introduces herself to Pride who returns to KC the necklace. May shows a new-found appreciation for the necklace but KC gives it to Cloe instead. May gets upset by Pride's behaviour and accuses him using her to make Amber jealous. He denies it but she won't listen and ends their relationship. Amber convinces Jack to stay the night at the mall. When Ellie returns, she and Jack exchange pleasantries before Ellie retreats. Luke sees she still has feelings for Jack but she assures him he is the one she wants. Lex returns to the mall and learns about Tai-San's encounter with the Guardian and takes over Bray's ambush plan. KC stops in to check on Cloe and promises more items like the necklace if she sticks with him. He asks for a goodnight kiss and she plants one on his forehead. Lex is shocked by Tai-San's revelation that she feels bad for betraying the Guardian's trust. He gives her the gift he got from the trader but she rejects it because of how he obtained it. Ellie goes to see Jack to explain she never meant to hurt him and asks for his forgiveness. He says they have nothing to talk about and she won't see him again after tomorrow. Ebony goes to Luke wanting more coins but he refuses, telling her she's going down the same path as the Guardian. She tells him she's going to rule the city and take whatever she deserves and wants him as her lieutenant — he can take his chances on the street or side with her.©tzuk

Luke gives Ebony more coins. She still wants more but he's making them as fast as he can and giving her the lion's share. Lex lays out his plan to capture the Guardian and while Tai-San still feels bad for betraying him, she knows he can't be allowed to roam free. Ebony's build-up reminds Luke of the Guardian and he's saddened to realise he hasn't changed as much as he thought. Ebony tells Moz about the Mall Rats' ambush plan. Ebony doesn't want the Guardian taken alive but knows they can't get close enough to kill him themselves so Moz arranges for her agent, Duff, to join the ambush squad. The Guardian is captured and Bray manages to stop Ebony's assassin. Lex refuses to turn the Guardian over to Ebony's private guards and takes him back to the mall and locks him up in the cage. KC is collecting protection money from the casino when he spots May drowning her sorrows. Pride joins them and takes May outside to talk. When May tells Pride she loves him, but knows he doesn't feel the same, Pride surprises her by revealing that he does love her. Back at the mall, Luke has decided to leave and gives Jack a letter to pass on to Ellie. Bray and Amber interrupt Ebony's conversation with the Guardian. Ebony tells them the Guardian told her he had a pact with Ned and demands he be executed immediately but the Guardian counters by revealing everything — that Ebony arranged his escape and got Ned to tell him where the prisoners were being held. Bray is not sure the Guardian can be believed but Amber is willing to accept Ebony was behind everything in an attempt to seize power. Unable to ignore the possibility, they agree to investigate. Jack delivers Luke's note to Ellie which asks her to find happiness with someone she deserves. Ebony finds Ellie crying over the note and advises her to go to the farm to talk to Alice and asks Ellie to inform her sister that the Guardian admitted to killing Ned.©tzuk

Jack quietly slips out of the mall, passing Amber, Bray, Trudy and Tai-San who are discussing what to do about Ebony. They all agree they have no choice but to proceed with an investigation. Continuing out of the city, Jack passes a determined Alice who is marching back to the mall. May asks Pride if he really meant it when he said he loved her. He assures her he did but his demeanour says otherwise. The Guardian tells Lex he needs him alive to bear witness against Ebony — only he can put their doubts about her to rest — as well as Lex's doubts about Tai-San's fidelity. The Guardian then tells Lex about his vision of the future, warning that the true bringers of Power and Chaos are coming. Jack stops in at the farm to say good-bye to Ellie and tells her about seeing Alice heading toward the mall in her war paint. Bray, Tai-San, and Amber go to the hotel to tell Ebony they'll be holding an inquiry into her actions. Ebony agrees to cooperate, later telling Moz she needs to be seen to be on the side of Justice. Leaving the mall, Luke turns around when he sees Alice stride past. She goes straight to the cage, slugs Lex, and confronts Ned's killer. Luke manages to stop her from killing the Guardian but as he's consoling her, the Guardian grabs Luke. Outside, a large military transport aircraft flies toward the city...

Bray and Amber return to the mall and announce Ebony has agreed to cooperate with the investigation. Lex tells them about Alice's attack and they all go to the cage where Alice tells them she's killed the Guardian. When Bray asks who told Alice the Guardian was the one who killed Ned, Ellie admits it was her. Trudy arrives with word Ebony and her people are gathering outside the mall gates having heard about the Guardian's death. Bray orders Lex arrest Alice and goes to talk to Ebony. On the way, Ellie adds that it was Ebony who told her to tell Alice. Outside, Ebony champions Alice as a hero to the gathered crowd. Bray accuses her of orchestrating everything and Ebony directs her guards arrest Bray and Amber and orders them banished from the city. Lex guides the pair through the angry mob to the edge of the city. Bray asks Lex to help bring Ebony down but he won't and wishes them well.

Elsewhere, the Guardian leads a bound Luke, explaining to him the Chosen still have followers who believe. Arriving at their destination, the Guardian is met by one of his followers and releases Luke with an offer to join them. The approaching military aircraft is heard by all — by Ebony as she basks in her glory; by outcasts Bray and Amber (who has gone into premature labour); and by the Mall Rats. As the airplane passes over the Guardian, he exclaims, "The true bringers of chaos… they're here". Inside the plane, the rear cargo doors open and a squad of masked paratroopers jump out. Upon reaching the ground, their leader radios in to announce the landing of the invasion force...©tzuk
