The recorded message from the satellite reveals that there is an antidote for the virus. It exists in all major cities but the virus spread too fast for world-wide manufacture. When the tracking station's generator gives out, the kids are forced to evacuate before the facility is destroyed in an giant explosion. Amber and Zandra do not make it out alive. Tai-San calls a meeting to rally the tribe but it is Ebony who delivers a tough-love message stating they need to focus on finding the antidote. Lost in his grief, Bray briefly entertains the thought of leaving the tribe before ultimately rejoining the others and sending Ryan, Salene, and Trudy back to the mall with Patsy, Cloe, and KC. Using information Jack found in the computer, Bray and the remaining Mall Rats split up to search for the antidote at three top-secret government buildings. While Jack and Dal find nothing but smouldering ruins at their site, Lex, Ebony and Tai-San have success and locate a lab with a large vat of the antidote. And Bray, he finds trouble. Meanwhile, the passing satellite has been observed by another tribe, a cult-like tribe devoted to the worship of Zoot. Believing it to be a sign, they set out in search of vengeance.©tzuk

Bray tells his captor, Danni, the story of the Mall Rats and convinces her to join them. Ryan leads the others back into the mall but they're not alone. A mysterious figure emerges as the kids are sleeping but he is seen by Patsy — it is Top Hat, the leader of Tribe Circus. Top Hat is infected with the virus and takes Cloe hostage wanting his hat back. KC knocks him out but he later escapes. Despite having just found the antidote, Ebony is already scheming to keep it for herself and Lex — if they control the antidote they will control the city, maybe the world. Tai-San finds the files for a series of abandoned research projects and one active one: Project Eagle Mountain. The three search parties return to the mall and everyone except Tai-San drinks the antidote — she will continue to rely on her own methods. After arguing over what to do with the remaining antidote, it is decided to divide up what's left and give it away. Unfortunately, no one thought to look for the formula and there's not nearly enough to treat everyone in the city. Meanwhile, the Zoot cult is marching closer, determined to bring down the wrath of Zoot and avenge him. Lex is haunted by dreams of being sick and frantically searches for more antidote thinking the virus has come back. Bray keeps a sample of the antidote in case Jack and Dal can't find the formula. Jack and Dal return to the government lab to search for the formula and Dal finds the same file folder Tai-San found but it is empty. Back at the mall, Tai-San burns the folder's contents — the formula for the antidote.©tzuk

At the farm [introduced in episode 1.32], Ellie tells her older sister Alice that she's been to the city where there's an antidote. Unfortunately, Ellie soon falls ill with the virus. Bray shows Jack the last sample of the antidote hoping he can find out what's in it. With news of the antidote's existance spreading, the Mall Rats have become popular trading partners but growing numbers of infected are wanting help. Trudy doesn't like new arrival Danni and makes no bones about telling her. The mall is beset by a mob of infected demanding the antidote. After searching the forrest for plants, Tai-San returns through sewers with her herbs. Lex finds the antidote sample Bray was keeping to analysis and drinks it without a second thought. Alice joins the angry mob at the mall and announces they're not leaving without antidote. To placate the mob, Lex and KC mix up a fake antidote and hand it out. The tribe is packing up to leave the mall when Tai-San announces she has crafted an antidote using nothing more than the extracts from three common plants. Tai-San wants to keep the exact formula to herself to protect the others and sends teams out to collect two of the plants while she alone gathers the third. Having taken the last of the antidote, Lex is better once again but his attempt to reconnect with Tai-San fails. She lets him know anything between them will happen on her terms. Lex has a brief relapse which indicates everyone will need repeated doses of the antidote — another opportunity, Ebony points out to Lex — if only they had the formula. Spike leads a violent attack on the mall in search of the antidote and gravely injures one of the tribe. Ebony negotiates a deal with him: in exchange for the antidote, Spike and his followers will become the Mall Rats' new security team. When Ellie recovers, Alice gladly sends Tai-San back to the mall with Lex and Ebony who is forced to change her plans to abduct Tai-San when Alice decides to join them as Tai-San's new bodyguard. Along with Ellie, the group arrive back at the mall where a banquet is held to celebrate Tai-San's return. The tribe begins to freely distribute Tai-San's antidote to the city's infected unaware KC is collecting "donations" from those in the queue outside the mall. Ellie is eager to join the Mall Rats but Alice is reluctant to give up on the farm. Lex and Ebony are absent for the vote but it is otherwise a unanimous decision to let the girls join the tribe. Seeing an opportunity, a plan is made to run the farm and supply food for the city. Dal jumps at the chance to relocate so he can realise a dream and Salene, Ryan, Patsy, and Cloe volunteer to go as well. Danni floats the idea of holding another meeting of tribe leaders in hopes of starting to rebuild while they are still in a position of influence. Bray catches KC extorting goods from the sick but he can't link it to Lex. As punishment, KC is sent to do cleanup duty at the farm. Danni and Bray gather the tribe in hopes of receiving their support to broker a deal between the city's tribe leaders with hopes of achieving full disarmament, an end to slavery, freedom of movement and a program of public works to clean up the city. Lex is upset at being ousted from a leadership position in the tribe but Ebony tells Lex he needs to be patient as she build her militia. The new arrivals at the farm receive a cool reception as does Ellie when she makes herself at home in Jack's work area. Lex is willing to risk all of his winnings for one clean game after he discovers the casino is letting him win but KC arrives with the photos — it is a good start Lex tells him, but they need exact measurements. Tired of being bossed around, Patsy wants a real job and jumps at the chance to look after Bray for Patsy. Jack and Ellie find a damaged video tape while searching for information on the virus. Bray admits to Danni he accepted a gift from an infected girl. He feels guilty but wonders if they should accept these gifts as they are genuine displays of gratitude. KC convinces Lex to distract Alice so he can get into Tai-San's lab. While poking around, KC inadvertently turns on the gas to an unlit Bunsen burner. Alice returns to the lab and suspects KC has been inside and reports this to Tai-San who goes to check on things. Back at the mall, Alice carries an injured Tai-San from her destroyed lab as Lex denies any role in the blast to Ebony. Bray and Trudy return to the mall without Patsy and inform the others of Brady's abduction but Ebony says they need to concentrate on Tai-San — she's the only source of the antidote. The others begrudgingly agree. Alice searches the lab and learns the gas valve was in perfect condition meaning the only other explanation is that KC got into the lab and left the Bunsen burner on. The Hooded figure brings Brady to the Guardian who proclaims she is destined to serve a great purpose and soon will be reunited with her father. Lex tells KC to destroy his lab photos and deny any involvement in the explosion. Challenged by Bray about her lack of improvements to mall security, Ebony organises her troops for a search party but refuses to take along any of the Mall Rats other than Bob. KC finds Patsy hiding in a garbage container on the streets but she refuses to go back to the mall. Alice gets physical with KC demanding the truth and vows to get proof of his involvement in the blast. Ebony and her militia return to the mall unsuccessful in their search — and without Bob. Tai-San still has no memory and antidote supplies are running low. KC tells Ebony where Patsy is hiding but wants her protection from Alice in exchange. Ebony agrees but on her own terms. Trudy admits to Bray she feels alone and never fit in with the others and was only ever allowed to stay at the mall because of the baby. Found by Bob and Ebony, Patsy returns to the mall. Trudy is still enraged and only gets more upset when she believes the others care more for Patsy's hurt feelings than Brady's abduction. Finding himself spending more time with Ellie, Jack asks Lex for advice on women. Jack and Ellie look at the video tape they found at the government building and discover it is a Presidential Broadcast announcing the discovery of the source of the plague: debris from a passing comet contaminated the air, food and water. On Lex's advice, KC confesses, explaining he was after Tai-San's formula for the good of the tribe. Lex is glowingly supportive and Bray sees no point in punishing KC, preferring to concentrate on what they will do without the antidote — a situation quickly resolved by Tai-San's announcement that she's remembered the formula and will share it with one other person — Bray. With the Sacred One now in their possession, the Guardian proclaims to his tribe that the time has come to avenge Zoot.©tzuk

However, when he tries to hit on her, Ryan explodes and kicks him out of the mall. The incident finally brings Ryan and Salene together. Danni warns Bray that Ebony will bring down the Mall Rats just like she warned him. Preparations are made for Danni's trial with Bray putting Dal in charge while Ebony prosecutes and he defends. While returning the lamb to the farm, Patsy and Cloe walk past (and don't even notice) Lex sleeping on the street. On the witness stand, Alice is emphatic that Ebony is obviously to blame while Ebony accuses Danni of spying for the Chosen and espouses the idea that Danni lied about what she was doing before Bray first met her. Danni explains to Bray how her father found a way to halt the ageing process but things backfired and the virus was created instead. When the trial resumes, Bray suggests the killer had to know the antidote formula if they were prepared to kill Tai-San, and he gave the formula to just one other person — Ebony. The jury returns a not guilty verdict and Bray explains to the tribe he told Ebony the formula to save Trudy. Ebony holds Spike responsible for not ensuring a guilty verdict and wants him to make it up to her — or he'll join Bob. While Cloe and Patsy stop a group of boys from terrorising a dog, Spike quietly leaves the mall. Bray admits to being confused by his tribe-mates: no one thought Danni was guilty but they all remain suspicious of her. His plea for her to tell the others about her father falls on deaf ears. Everyone accepts Ebony is responsible for Bob's death but they can't get rid of her with the militia backing her and no definitive proof on any wrongdoing — they need her to do something they can pin on her. When the food store is raided the kids see an opportunity to blame Ebony and kick her out but she's one step ahead of them and produces a letter from Spike claiming responsibility for trying to kill Tai-San. Later, Ellie and Jack announce they have found a company report on Pandorax, the company behind the virus.©tzuk

Cloe and Patsy are feeling disenfranchised and decide to start their own tribe called C&P. Their first task is to find the dog. The Mall Rats' new Trading Market is officially opened by Danni. Discovering Bray already new this, Ebony proclaims he cannot be trusted and moves the tribe vote in a new leader — her. At the farm, Dal finds a strange amulet in the soil. Alice tells him other items have turned up there over the years and because it shares the same design as the Mall Rats' logo, Tai-San thinks it is a sign. Alice and Tai-San are at odds with Tai-San wanting to accept destiny and let Ebony destroy herself, while Alice wants no part of Ebony as leader. Ebony makes an offer to KC, Dal, Patsy and Cloe seeking their support. May introduces Lex to The Outcasts — her tribe made up of kids who have all been thrown out of their own tribes. May tells Lex they are planning to go north to join up with the Chosen and asks him to join them. However, after a rest, he wakes to find them gone — along with his shoes. Bray won't let Danni leave the Mall Rats, explaining the Ebonys and the Chosens of the world win if she walks away from her plan to build a new society and credits her with changing his outlook after Amber's death. Rumours begin to spread that the antidote isn't needed and Ellie decides to resigns from the news sheet. Ebony catches a shoplifter, The Hunga, in the market and wants to chop off one of his fingers as punishment but Danni orders him imprisoned in the sewers until they decide what to do at a meeting. Alice invites Lex to supper under the guise of going over security matters but when she then calls it a date, Lex panics. Tai-San is upset to learn of the date, fully expecting Lex to hurt Alice eventually, but also doesn't approve of Lex's solution which is to simply stand her up. Ryan and Ellie have uncovered rumours about the Chosen but have no hard evidence to prove anything. Ellie admits defeat and heads back to the mall but Ryan, having told her about his problems with Salene, decides to head off on his own. Cleo returns to the farm and tells Dal she doesn't like how Trudy is behaving but Dal reassures her that there's nothing to worry about and Trudy will be back to normal soon. Bray gives Danni a microphone he wants Jack to plant in the hotel so they can spy on Ebony. Bray observes Lex asking Alice to keep their date a secret under the pretence of wanting to take it slow. Ryan tells Salene he misses the sense of family the tribe had when they first arrived at the mall and apologises to Salene for his remark about her wanting to have a baby with Bray. The pair make their way back to the mall. Jack plants the microphone in Ebony's private suite and narrowly avoids being discovered when Ebony walks in on him. In exchange for Bray's silence about him and Alice, Lex agrees to let Billy-Boy and The Jackals into the marketplace. During their date Lex can't bring himself to tell Alice he doesn't like her. Afterwards, Alice is in good spirits when a concerned Tai-San stops by to check on her. Tai-San later tells Lex his failure to tell Alice the truth has only made things worse. Lex explains he was trying to spare Alice's feelings and calls Tai-San a hypocrite given how she jumped into bed with him "for the good of the tribe". Wolf is taken to meet the Guardian and tells him the Supreme Mother's work is almost done and the Guardian proclaims it is time, "let the terror begin"! After seeing Jack and Dal argue about how to fix the broken security gate, Bray orders mall security be overhauled but sends Jack to help Ebony leaving Ellie to help Dal. Lex is sick with food poisoning after eating the meal Trudy prepared for him. Trudy erupts when she finds Salene with Brady. Salene tells her Ryan has asked her to marry him but Trudy is unaffected — "oh, you want me to be happy for you?" — and fosters Salene's uncertainty. Salene then takes Bray aside seeking his advice but misinterprets his remarks and leaves thinking she may still have a chance with him. Ebony hosts a secret meeting of the tribal leaders in her private suite to discuss the Chosen who she still believes to be a threat. Jack's hidden microphone allows him to hear the start of the meeting but it soon fails. Ryan returns to the bridge to think but is interrupted by KC who is being chased by kids he owes money to as a result of the botched rat race. When Salene confides in Trudy that she plans to accept Ryan's proposal, Trudy asks Salene to make sure she's not settling for a compromise. Cloe tells Trudy she knows she's different since returning — and soon everyone else will too.
