She convinces a reluctant Mimmi to cast a remote spell on Evie while she is at school but the spell backfires leaving Ondina unable to get her legs. After overhearing Ondina blaming her for Evie losing her tail, Weilan contemplates her future. No longer a mermaid, Evie surrenders her Moon Ring.©tzuk

Mimmi's visions of a mysterious mermaid lead her to the inescapable conclusion that she must be her and Zac's mother, Nerissa. Upon learning their mother is fabled Nerissa, Weilan recounts how their mother helped defend the Eastern pod from a rebel mermaid named Aurora but never returned after going to face her alone. Zac advises caution but Mimmi is determined to find out what happened to her. In her haste, Mimmi unknowingly summons the Water Dragon which pursues her only to vanish as just suddenly as it appeared. Meanwhile, Carly is frustrated by Cam pulling double duty as both her boyfriend and boss. Seeking clarity, she makes him declare what hat he is wearing at all times.©tzuk

Mimmi helps Ondina come up with an exciting new lesson for the little mermaids using an accelerated growth spell. With the school board undertaking a review of Rita's principalship, Ms Trumble make it no secret that she is out for the job herself. Rita's all but assured to retain the position but after mistakenly drinking tea made from the growth accelerator, Rita begins to age rapidly. Luckily Rita knows the recipe for the reversal potion — she just can't remember the final ingredient! Zac and Evie's attempt to spend a quiet day together keeps getting interrupted. The pair are tasked with delaying Rita's interview with the school board until the Rita's cure can be completed. Caught between two worlds, Rita makes an important decision about her future but a new opportunity surfaces.©tzuk

Weilan somehow herself on a double date with Karl accompanying Mimmi and Chris to a book signing and art exhibition. The author has on display a collection of artifacts she's personally recovered from the ocean depths. One of the items, a gold bracelet, may hold the secret to defeating the Water Dragon. Unable to persuade the collector to turn over the bracelet, the girls recruit Zac to try and pull off a heist. Meanwhile, Mimmi makes a difficult choice when confronted by Chris' questions.©tzuk

Also, Alex Pinder appeared in all four series of the Jonathan Shiff-produced series Ocean Girl (1994-1997), a thematic precursor to both H20 and Mako.

Ondina brings goods news from the Mermaid Council — they have a plan to defeat the water Dragon by entering the Moon Pool on the night of the full moon and unleashing the full power of Mako. Zac and Mimmi see another vision of their mother while they are at the Moon Pool. Mimmi is convinced their mother is still alive and is in need of their help. Weilan confirms her theory when she learns of a tale about a Chinese mermaid falling in love with a Land Boy who was turned into a Water Dragon as punishment. The mermaid was able to use a magic bracelet to break the spell and free him.

Mimmi believes Nerissa is trapped in the form of the Water Dragon and needs their help but Veridia and the Mermaid Council don't want to risk the pod by not destroying the Water Dragon. Desperate to get their hands on the gold bracelet, Ondina and Weilan find Rikki at the Moon Pool where they are finally able to convince her to help them.

As the full moon rises, the Water Dragon appears and begins to make its way to Mako Island. Armed with the bracelet, Mimmi faces off against the Water Dragon while Ondina and Weilan rush to the Moon Pool hoping to stop the Mermaid Council but it is too late to stop what they have started.

Mimmi unleashes the power of the gold braclet and in a blinding flash of light the Water Dragon is destroyed but Mimmi is gone as well. After a few anxious moments she emerges out of the water with her mother in her arms. Nerissa has been freed and is finally reunited with her children.

Back in the grotta, Nerissa recounts how Aurora used a spell to turn her into the Water Dragon and forced her to attack Weilan's pod. After a long slumber in which she dreamt of her children finding one another, Nerissa was eventually awoken when the spell was lifted by Zac and Mimmi's love.

In the aftermath of events, Zac informs his friends he plans to tell his parents the truth about who he is, Weilan helps a friend and recieves a Moon Ring of her own, Mimmi shares her secret with Chris, and the mermaids make plans for the future.©tzuk
