It's been a week since Jenny kicked Danny out, and things are tense in the Law household in the lead-up to Christmas. As Benjamin struggles to put together the tree (usually Danny's responsibility), Jenny tries to lift the mood by being upbeat, but it's clear Tammy is still resentful towards Jenny for how things have turned out. In the meantime, Benjamin and Melissa visit a local unscrupulous talent agent named Beryl Streep (for marketing purposes) who promises them both stardom as long as they can cough up the exorbitant joining fee.

After Benjamin takes the initiative and forces the family into group therapy, their no-nonsense counselor Sandra suggests Danny takes the children off Jenny on weekends. That way, Jenny can see Danny being engaged with parenthood for once, and Jenny can get much-needed time to herself. Meanwhile, Benjamin is distressed to discover Melissa has scored a role on TV before him. Beryl reveals Melissa has a "special trick" — the ability to cry convincingly on cue.

Andrew's 18th birthday is coming up and Jenny — with Benjamin's help — is determined to throw him the perfect party. Only problem is, Andrew really doesn't want Jenny and Benjamin meddling. Meanwhile, Benjamin — demoralised by his lack of auditions — is heartened by getting a promotional job through Beryl Streep… involving handing out sausage samples at the local shopping centre. Upon arrival, he is horrified to discover Klaus Thomson doing the same job, having recently been signed onto Beryl's books.

After Andrew moves out with Danny, a heartbroken and catatonic Jenny finds herself caught in the throes of a deep depression. As her illness becomes more severe, Benjamin tries to cheer his mother up by inviting her best — and possibly only — friend from Malaysia, the mysterious Aunty Rose. But when Rose reveals her true colours as a judgmental control freak, Benjamin has to summon his siblings to save Jenny.

Jenny and Danny's twentieth wedding anniversary looms before them, and in an unfortunate bit of timing, Candy and Wayne have also started their own wedding arrangements via a perky Save the Date video — much to Jenny and Danny's shared displeasure. Meanwhile, Benjamin — who sees Candy and Wayne's nuptials are making Jenny question her marriage to Danny — instigates a performance that will cheer Jenny up.
