Young Lions: articles

Blue Heelers see off hard-bitten rival

CHANNEL 9's ill-fated local drama Young Lions has suffered yet another blow—it will be moved to a later timeslot after only two weeks at 9.30pm.

The expensive drama moved from the 8.30pm slot on September 18 after disappointing ratings and failing to make an impression against Seven's Blue Heelers on Wednesdays.

This week, it drew just 574,143 viewers nationally and 68,719 people in Southeast Queensland, according to OzTAM. Locally, it ran fourth in its timeslot.

Nine had replaced Young Lions with The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, which will also be pulled from the schedule.

That program, a US comedy, attracted 820,109 viewers nationally and 139,253 in southeast Queensland on Wednesday night.

Young Lions will move to 10.30pm next week and Nine will run movies in the 8.30pm timeslot.

Network director of programming John Stephens said: "We believe Young Lions is a really well produced drama with great actors and contemporary stories. However, so far our audience hasn't shared our enthusiasm for the show."
