When we last saw Jess and Josh they were about to embark on their big trip to the UK, but the real adventure starts in this new series of twentysomething, when they return home and discover that everyone has moved on.

With nowhere to live, Jess and Josh temporarily bunk in with Nick, Fiona and their newborn daughter Chloe. But when Jess awakes in the middle of the night spooning Josh in a sexless marriage of convenience, all scored to the sound of a crying baby, she gets a glimpse of a life she never thought she would have. Rattled, they agree to take Nick up on his offer to move into one of his vacant investment properties, making him their landlord.

In an attempt to discover where they may have taken a wrong turn, Jess and Josh find themselves looking for their life purpose in the last place anyone would expect — a uni open day. They take part in a career seminar designed for year twelve students and discover that Josh would excel in a creative environment while Jess is better suited to a trade. A slightly delayed surprise welcome home party is thrown for the pair, but the real surprise catches Jess off-guard when Billy turns up with a new girlfriend by his side.

On a quest to find her hidden talent, Jess looks to her roots for guidance, and finds herself with a packed lunch and a hard hat ready to work for her dad as a building apprentice. Quickly becoming one of the boys, we soon discover where Jess's scamming skills come from as she learns from her dad how to do dodgy quotes and hold her own in pub brawls. Josh decides to turn his photography passion into a career, enrolling in a part-time course dedicated to building up an impressive photography folio.

Between Josh starting school and Jess working on the site, the pair also has the shared task of finding a new roommate to help cover the rent. Jess and Josh interview candidates like they are casting for a reality TV show, both unanimously deciding on a musician with an unstable income and nothing but a guitar and his painfully good looks to contribute to the house.

After a workplace injury of a broken foot Jess hangs up her hard hat and starts working at the local cinema as an usher. When she spies Billy (Hamish Blake) and his new girlfriend in the ticket line, their public display of affection sends Jess on a one-track mission to get Billy back! Jess and Josh hit every café and gym in search of fresh meat to make Billy jealous, with Jess's prayers finally answered when her overseas fling, Chris, comes to town.

Jess schemes throwing an impromptu house warming dress-up party to flaunt her overly energetic and erratic new guy in front of Billy. But when she and Josh wake the next day to endless reports of missing phones, wallets and bags with Chris nowhere to be seen, Jess realises while she was using him, he was also using her.

When Josh sees Jess creeping out of their gorgeous housemate Dan's bedroom early one morning, he immediately assumes she has slept with him. Disappointed, jealous and feeling bad for Billy, Josh decides to inform Billy of Jess's unfaithful slip. Jess, wrongfully accused, sets up a courtroom in their living room, with Billy as the judge and Dan and Abby on the stand, defending Jess's honour in a gripping and convincing court case.

While Jess's name is cleared, Billy takes matters into his own hands, sentencing Jess and Josh's friendship to community service to mend the obvious underlying issues of trust. They find themselves volunteering at a local nursing home, where they inject their fun and energy, organising a 50s style dance party for the patrons called the Final Fling.

In her newfound career as an actress, Jess hits the audition trail full of naive optimism and confidence. But she soon discovers her 'Agent' is an online scam, and she is only eligible for an extras casting call for a medieval battle scene. Josh has his own pressures at university, with a six-piece photo exhibition due in order to graduate and, to make matters worse, the pair are down a roommate and can no longer make rent.

Jess, not willing to sit around and wait for the perfect part to be handed to her, decides it's time to take control of her own career and make a reel to showcase her range and diversity. Needing Josh's camera and filming expertise to get the job done, Jess offers to become the subject of his uni project as a trade-off.

To solve the rent problem, Billy suggests that he move in to the third bedroom, but Jess freaks out at the thought of the magic disappearing from their relationship. When Jess and Josh arrive at Josh's university in official graduation robes to hand in his final assignment, they discover there is no official ceremony. With Nick, Fiona, Billy and Abby all there to witness Josh's graduation Jess demands they celebrate Josh's big moment regardless.
