The Secret Life of Us: articles

Old friends and new for The Secret Life of Us

Network Ten’s award-winning drama, The Secret Life of Us, is back in production next week on its fourth series with a hot cast line-up for 2004.

Returning to the hit series will be AFI and Logie award-winning actress Deborah Mailman (Kelly), along with Samuel Johnson (Evan), Michael Dorman (Christian) and David Tredinnick (Simon). Several new faces will be moving into the famous St Kilda address with an all star line-up including Stephen Curry (The Nugget, Changi, The Castle) taking on the role of Christian’s new flatmate, Stu. Joining Evan and Kelly will be Brooke Harman (Pirate Islands, Ned Kelly) as Bree. Another apartment at the St Kilda dwelling is occupied by Nicholas Coghlan in the role of Adam, his sister Lucy, played by Alexandra Schepisi (MDA, Sea Change, Blue Heelers), and Anna Torv as Lucy’s best friend Nikki (Travelling Light, Young Lions). Sullivan Stapleton will also return as a core cast member in the role of Justin.

Network Ten’s General Manager Network Programming, David Mott says: “The Secret Life of Us has and continues to be the most successful Australian drama for the under 40 audience. Series 3 went from strength to strength against some tough competition, and won it’s timeslot in the demo every week during 2003. Everything you love about the program is there for another season, as well as some exciting fresh new faces to ensure its success in 2004 and beyond”.

Southern Star Entertainment Chief Executive, Hugh Marks says, “Series four will see the familiar faces of the St Kilda-located drama continue to deal with a world where the moral boundaries are tested and now complicated by sexy new arrivals.

Will a territorial divide test the limits of friendship or can old and new become friends?”

Produced by Southern Star Entertainment, series four of The Secret Life of Us will return to Network Ten in 2004.

Bored Sam's back with Evan

SAMUEL Johnson will be reprising his role as Evan in the fourth Secret Life of Us series, despite admitting he had grown a bit bored by it.

Evan, played by Johnson, Deborah Mailman (Kelly) and David Tredinnick (Simon) are the only original cast members to return to the Channel 10 show.

Sibylla Budd (Gabrielle) and Spencer McLaren (Richie) won't be coming back but Michael Dorman will return as Christian.

Stephen Curry of The Castle fame will be moving in as Christian's new flatmate Stu and down the corridor in Evan and Kelly's room, Bree, played by Brooke Harman will be taking on the spare room, left vacant by Gigi Edgley (George).

Also joining the cast are Nicholas Coghlan, Alexandra Schepisi (MDA, Sea Change), Anna Torv (Young Lions).

Johnson admitted he was hoping the third series would be the last as he was getting a little bored with the role.

However a spokeswoman for the show yesterday confirmed that he will still be one of the main characters, although the main focus of the fourth series will be on Deborah Mailman's character, Kelly.

Melbourne-based Mailman is currently in Sydney preparing to host the Lexus IF awards to be staged tomorrow night at Wharf 8, Pyrmont.
