David Wenham as Diver Dan

Diver Dan

Daniel Della Bosca is a retired shark wrangler known as "Diver Dan". He operates a boat hire and school ferry service across the river and is respected by the community at Pearl Bay as an underwater hero. Dan is also the proprietor of Diver Dan's Café, a unique establishment that is more of a retreat for quiet reflection than a provider of reliable service. Though very different, Dan and Laura are destined to become friends and Dan is the one who helps her get her life in perspective. As Laura comes to realise, still waters run deep with Dan.

David Wenham is now quickly rising through the ranks to become one of Australia's most popular and sought after male actors. After graduating from drama school, David worked extensively in theatre, establishing a special link with Sydney's Belvoir St. Theatre under the guidance of Neil Armfield. David has successfully crossed over into television and film work. He reveals wonderful diversity with his range of performances in films such as David Caesar's Greenkeeping and Idiot Box, Cosi, Dark City and the recent film version of The Boys, selected for competition at the 1998 Berlin Film Festival. Last year David won the Australian Film Institute award for Best Male Actor in the Artist Services-ABC mini-series Simone de Beauvoir's Babies. His many theatre credits include roles in such celebrated productions as Barry Kosky's Tartuffe, Neil Armfield's Hamlet and The Tempest.

'Dan has his own particular slant on the world and he often does things for no other reason than his own amusement. But the idyllic life and togetherness of Dan is a façade. There is a darker side to him.' — David Wenham.
