Kath, Ethan and Rudi discover each of the malware suspects has ample motives, and the unpredictable US President orders a US warship to undertake a provocative voyage through the South China Sea, throwing the world closer to conflict between the US and China.

With time running out to find the Pine Gap mole, Kath (Jacqueline McKenzie) hosts a BBQ for A-Crew so she and Rudi (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) can observe and casually question the team in the hope of discovering the true culprit. But A-Crew are a complicated bunch, and soon Kath and Rudi discover that they all have ample motive for treason — Gus’ (Parker Sawyers) frustrations with his American superiors; the death of Jasmina’s (Tess Haubrich) family in Serbia at the hands of CIA trained and armed “freedom fighters”; Eloise’s (Edwina Wren) ignored career ambitions; Deb’s (Alice Keohavong) pacifist family background at odds with her current work; Simon’s (Sachin Joab) money troubles and Moses’ (Mark Leonard Winter) vast ego.

In fact, discoveries in Pine Gap are occurring everywhere: Rudi secretly uncovers information that Kath and Jacob (Stephen Curry) were once married and are now going through a messy divorce, and Moses discovers an unlikely friendship with local troubled street kid, Marissa Campbell (Milly Alcock).

On the Ops Floor, A-Crew monitor a make-or-break meeting between US President Kerr (Rob MacPherson) and China’s Chairman Chen (Michael Quan) — but the meeting ends badly with the President flexing his muscles and ordering a Freedom of Navigation voyage for the USS Bartlet into contested waters in the South China Sea.

Meanwhile, Belle (Simone Kessell) and Zhou’s (Jason Chong) friendship strengthens as Zhou gets closer to securing the Shonguran gas mine deal in Alice Springs with local Arrernte traditional owner, Paul Dupain (Kelton Pell). Paul is cautious of the mine and determined to get a good compensation deal for his mob, while his fiery, politicised daughter, Immy (Madeleine Madden) — who also plays social basketball with A-Crew — has her own modern take on the gas deal’s possibilities for the region, while also resenting the American presence at Pine Gap.

Despite Kath and Jacob’s orders, Jasmina still pursues the Flight BM-24 investigation with Gus, and the duo discover that plane passenger Lwin Ho had met Australia’s Chief of Staff, Robert Boyle before her flight was shot down.

Curiosity piqued, Jasmina takes an opportunity to access Robert Boyle’s inbox and discovers an email from the Australian Prime Minister that could change everything…
