Six months from when we last saw young Jay and Mary we find them in distinctly novel territory. Settled into a small town to visit Mary’s mother's country, Jay is discovering domesticity and Mary is working at a local hospital. But it’s a town where not all is as it seems, and when a crime strikes at the heart of Jay and Mary’s household it threatens to derail their future together.

A new posting to the town of Loch Iris, and Jay Swan's hopes of a new beginning with Mary are shattered when he's nearly sideswiped by a stolen car, the suspicious death of an elderly nun and a missing child.
