Look At Moiye! Kath & Kim Will Return To Abc Tv In 2004

Bit of shhhh……… please peoples. We want to make an announcement. It’s official, yes we will be doing a third series of Kath & Kim because we do enjoy the one-on-one face time we have with those foxymorons down at the ABC. See you all for a bit of P & Q down at Fountain Gate soon.

Kath Day-Knight, Kim Craig nee Day.

The hornbags from Fountain Lakes, Kath & Kim, will bring their unique sense of ‘yumour’ back to ABC TV again next year with today’s announcement of a third series.

ABC TV’s Director of Television Sandra Levy says “Kath & Kim is now the most successful and most watched Australian comedy in years, attracting 2,153,766 viewers to last night’s Series 2 finale.”

Kath & Kim is now also the top rating comedy show on Australian television for 2003, out-rating Friends, which attracted 2,041,318 viewers on February 10.

“ABC TV is thrilled to have now finalised the agreement for Series 3, which will go into production in Melbourne next year. It is clear the nation has taken these wonderful characters to its heart and made Kath & Kim must-watch television. The show has attracted a truly universal audience and so much of the language, created by Gina and Jane, has now slipped comfortably into the Australian vernacular,” she said.

Gina Riley and Jane Turner said today:

“We are over our proverbials about doing another series of Kath & Kim and in particular, continuing our relationship with the ABC and we thank them for the extraordinary support they have offered us in making the series a success.”

Compared to last week’s record audience, the finale attracted an additional 300,000 Australians, who sat glued to ABC TV to see Kim give birth to Eponnee Rae, bringing the peak audience to 2,153,766.

Created and written by Jane Turner and Gina Riley, the final episode attracted a 37.9% five-city metro household share.

Kath & Kim is ABC TV’s top rating program this year, achieving both popular and critical acclaim. The series has won three AFI Awards and a Logie for Most Outstanding Comedy Program, and has just been nominated for four AFI Awards and three Australian Comedy Awards.

ABC TV’s Head of Drama and Narrative Comedy Robyn Kershaw says “Gina and Jane are extraordinarily gifted and significant creative artists. It is always a tremendous privilege to work with them as well as being so much fun!

“The originality and authenticity of Kath & Kim includes the brilliance of Magda Szubanski as Sharon Strzelecki, Glenn Robbins as Kel Knight and Peter Rowsthorn as Brett Craig.”

Kath & Kim also boasted a myriad of guest actors including Vince Colosimo, Mick Molloy, William McInnes, Sibylla Budd, Tony Martin, Mark Trevorrow, Belinda McClory, Marg Downey, Kate Atkinson and Alan Brough.
