Kath & Kim: articles

Kath and Kim return

AUSSIE TV megastars Kath and Kim are set to return to the small screen but in their own telemovie.

While the ABC and stars/creators Gina Riley and Jane Turner remain tight-lipped, approaches were being made yesterday to key crew personnel.

It is understood production will start within the next eight weeks.

The movie will screen on the ABC -- news that will come as a blow to the commercial networks who were offering big money to snare the dynamic duo.

It is interesting that Turner and Riley have opted to go for a telemovie, rather than a fourth series of the show.

Kath & Kim has been the most successful Australian TV comedy series ever, screening regularly to an audience approaching two million.

It was also sold to Britain and the US.

Late last year Riley and Turner told the Herald Sun that they were undecided about doing a fourth series.

"I don't want to play Kath for the rest of my life," Turner said then. "Maybe we're better letting Kath & Kim rest after three seasons. It may be the end."

A one-off package would have enormous sales potential overseas, while the DVD would also be a big seller.
