East of Everything 2 starts production

Richard Roxburgh, Tom Long, Susie Porter and Gia Carides will once again head the cast of the ABC TV drama series East of Everything, which begins production on a second series in Byron Bay on Monday August 18.

Joining them in this series are Nick Tate (Lost, Farscape, JAG, Water Rats) as Gerry Watkins, the long lost father to Art (Richard Roxburgh) and Vance Watkins (Tom Long); Tracy Mann (All Saints, Janus); and New Zealand actor Craig Hall (King Kong, Outrageous Fortune). Also returning are Kathryn Beck, Valerie Bader, Craig Stott and Tom Budge.

Series two is written by Deb Cox and Roger Monk, directors are Stuart MacDonald (East of Everything series 1, Summer Heights High, The Secret Life of Us); Tony Tilse (Underbelly, City Homicide, Scorched); and Ian Watson (Love My Way, Tripping Over).

The series resumes five months after Art and Vance Watkins have reopened the 70s backpacker's, the Far Out East, in accordance with their mother's dying wish. Things are just starting to pick up when a storm blows through Broken Bay, depositing Gerry Watkins, tempest-like on the doorstep.

Meanwhile, Eve (Susie Porter) and Art, while in love, are running an obstacle course managing a romantic relationship in very unromantic conditions. Art's relationship with his teenage son Josh (Craig Stott) has continued to develop and his long awaited book, Gross National Happiness is to be launched at the Broken Bay Writers Festival… what more could he hope for? Indeed everything is… perfect. Or is it?

Executive Producers are Miranda Dear and Amanda Higgs (ABC TV) and Fiona Eagger, Producer Fiona Eagger, Co-Producer Deb Cox, and Associate Producer Roger Monk.

Amanda Higgs says," It's great to have our family at the Far Out East return and to welcome new faces into the fold. This promises to deliver more of the rich emotional landscape of series one, and the humour and the challenges that face adult, familial and sibling relationships. It's a pleasure to have the opportunity to revisit this finely crafted series."

"East of Everything 2 takes the world of Broken Bay and its inhabitants into new territory; amplifying the comedy and pace and delivering a series of quality, heart and humour," Fiona Eagger says.
