Blue Heelers: articles

New lease of life for Heelers

THE Seven Network has renewed its long-running police drama Blue Heelers for a further 42 episodes next year.

A recent revamp, which included the addition of four new cast members, including Samantha Tolj, has seen the show lift its national audience by up to 400,000 to an impressive 1.6 million.

“Blue Heelers is a true Australian icon and we’re pleased to announce its renewal,” said Seven programming/production boss, Tim Worner.

“We are very proud of the increased ratings over the past five weeks, and are delighted more younger viewers are switching on.

“But the real heroes are the writers, producers and cast, who are to be applauded for successfully reinvigorating the show.”

Heelers is an Australian drama phenomenon, having enjoyed continued success since its premiere on January 18, 1994. Next year will be the show’s 12th season.
